The short versionOn September 28, Meta launched Meta Enterprise Platform, which Mark Zuckerberg called "the next major pillar" of its business. It will start by bringing Meta's AI stack, including the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code, to businesses and developers. Former MongoDB CEO CJ Desai leads it. Meta hasn't shared pricing or launch dates.
Meta wants to sell businesses the same AI that powers its apps. On September 28, the company launched Meta Enterprise Platform, a new business line built around AI for companies.
What happened
Mark Zuckerberg framed it as a big bet: "Today we are starting the next major pillar of our business, Meta Enterprise Platform, to help businesses use AI to grow and transform in new ways as well."
He pointed to what Meta already has: "Meta Enterprise Platform will use our strengths that few other companies have: advanced models, leading agents, large-scale infrastructure, and years of working closely with many businesses." Meta says it already helps hundreds of millions of businesses reach customers.
The details
Meta says the platform will initially focus on bringing its full technology stack, including the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, Muse Code and more, to businesses and developers.
To run it, Meta hired Chirantan "CJ" Desai as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer, reporting directly to Zuckerberg. Desai was CEO and President of MongoDB, previously led product and engineering at Cloudflare, and spent nearly eight years at ServiceNow, including as President and COO. "Our goal is to make Meta the place enterprises come to scale their businesses," Desai said.
The move rippled beyond Meta. MongoDB's shares dropped more than 17% on the news of Desai's departure, and Dev Ittycheria was appointed interim CEO, TechCrunch reported.
What's not in the announcement: pricing, availability dates, or a timeline for specific products.
Why brands should care
Most brands know Meta as the place they buy ads. This is Meta saying it wants to be the place they run AI too, using agents it has already built for its own apps. A day later, Meta showed what that looks like at the small end with Muse for Small Business.
For marketers, the practical question is how much of your workflow ends up inside one company's ecosystem: your audience, your ads, and now potentially your AI tools.
What to do
- Don't change plans yet. There's no pricing or launch date. Treat this as direction, not a product.
- Try Muse first. It's the piece you can use today, and the best preview of what Meta's business AI can and can't do.
- Map your data. Know which of your accounts and tools you'd be comfortable connecting to any AI agent, Meta's or otherwise.
- Watch for developer access. If your team builds tools, Muse API and Muse Code are the names to follow.
