Old Deal Still on Your Website? Google May Advertise It.

Google Ads can now read the deals on your website and put them in your ads, and it's on by default. Here's what it does, which campaigns it touches and how to stay in control.

The short versionGoogle Ads will automatically pull deals and coupons from advertisers' websites and attach them as promotions to eligible Search and Performance Max campaigns starting October 12, 2026, according to an email Google sent some advertisers. It applies to campaigns with location assets and no manual promotions, is on by default, and can be turned off in account-level automated assets settings.

That "20% off" banner you forgot to take down could end up in your Google ad. Google Ads is telling advertisers it will start pulling deals straight from their websites into their campaigns.

What happened

Google sent some advertisers an email, published by Search Engine Roundtable on October 5: "Starting October 12, 2026, Google Ads will automatically identify and extract high-quality promotions, such as coupons and deals, from your website and apply them directly to your campaigns." Accounts are opted in automatically.

Search Engine Roundtable says the feature itself launched earlier, and this email is Google informing advertisers about it. Which regions and how many accounts got the email hasn't been confirmed.

The details

Google's help page on automated promotions puts it plainly: "Google automatically identifies and extracts promotional offers directly from your website."

  • Who it applies to: eligible Search and Performance Max campaigns that have location assets attached and don't currently have manual promotions running.
  • How it works: Google's example is a landing page advertising "20% off on black sweaters." Google extracts it and can display the discount in the search results.
  • How long it runs: each automated promotion serves for less than 24 hours, and may be re-enabled while Google can verify the promotion is still visibly available on your website.
  • Where to see them: under Assets, filter by Asset type: Promotion, and look for "Google AI" in the Added by column.
  • How to opt out: Assets, then Account level automated assets, then Advanced settings, then set Automated promotions to Off.

Why brands should care

Your website is now your ad copy. If an old sale, an expired coupon or a "new clients only" deal is still visible on your site, Google can treat it as live and put it in front of searchers. That's a customer-service problem waiting to happen when someone walks in expecting a price you no longer offer.

It also takes a decision out of your hands. Which offer leads your ad is a strategy call, and by default Google is making it.

What to do

  1. Clean up your site before October 12. Remove expired deals, old sale banners and outdated coupon codes.
  2. Add your own promotion asset. Google skips campaigns that already have a manual promotion running, so this gives you exact wording and dates.
  3. Or opt out. Assets, Account level automated assets, Advanced settings, Automated promotions: Off.
  4. Check what Google added. Look for "Google AI" in the Added by column under Promotion assets.
  5. Tell whoever runs your ads. If an agency manages your account, make sure they know.
